The day when Lord Surya also known as the king among the astrological 9 planets of Vedic astrology, crosses the Mithun Rashi and enters Kark Rashi is called Shrawan Sankranti. This day is very good for the worship of Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya. The holy bath, worship and donations, as well as other holy rituals performed on this day is very much beneficial for the devotees. From this day Dakxinayan starts where Sun starts its turning towards the South pole from the North pole. The days also starts being shorter and the nights are long. Not only Shrawan Sankranti but also the entire month of Shrawan is a very holy occasion, especially the Mondays of this month are very divine and beneficial. On the days of Monday by taking the bath on holy rivers, visiting pilgrims, going to temples, performing holy rituals, by worshiping and donating in name of Lord Shiva one can get rid of his sins and troubles. So it's a good combination to offer him devotion at this time.
