There are several festivals and highly spiritual holy occasions on Vedic culture. Which provide a divine knowledge and satisfaction by following the rituals. Such rituals are the forms of penance which give rid of sins, provide purity and upgrade for salvation. Among those beautiful occasions Purusottam Maas is the one famous holy festival which is also known as Mala Maas or Adhik Maas.
This occasion occurs on every third year. It is mentioned as the month out of 12 months. It runs for whole month period. It is believed as an extra month so it is called Adhik Maas. Here Adhik means extra. No Veidic rituals are performed such as marrige, grah shanti pooja, griha pravesh etc. during this time. Just the holy bath, worship, donation, name chanting and reading or listening holy story of Purusottam Mahatmay is done in name of lord Narayana, the ruling lord of this month.
One can gain excessive holiness and boon by attending fast on this occasion. Along with fast mantra chanting, worshiping, doing donations especially Deep daanam one can be blessed a lot. Listening the story named Purusottam Mahatmay based on Narad Purana or Padma Purana, singing and dancing in name and love of God one can enjoy the divinity during this time. Radha Krishna deity is worshipped especially during this period. Some devotees also read Bhagwat Mahapuran, Vishnu Puran and Ramayan during Purusottam Maas.
